Trauma Psycho-education and Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) Group

In this 6-week program we combine psycho-education and trauma sensitive yoga to help people who have been impacted by trauma build knowledge, skills and resources to feel more empowered in daily life. Trauma Centre Trauma-Sensitive yoga (TCTSY) is an empirically validated clinical intervention for complex trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Trauma centre trauma sensitive yoga can help you to;
- Connect with your body
- Practice choice-making
- Learn to develop greater capacity to be present
- Cultivate self-efficacy and a sense of empowerment
- Support self regulation
The combination of psycho-education and TCTSY will support participants to build knowledge, skills and resources to feel more empowered in daily life. Each session will include 60 minutes teaching and discussion, 30 minutes TCTSY practice. Each participant will receive a resource booklet to help support learning and reflection.

The next program starts on Tuesday July 8, 2025 5.00 – 6.30 pm
WHAT
In each session we will learn about trauma, its impact and have the opportunity to identify coping strategies followed by guided practice in trauma centre trauma sensitive yoga.
WHO
This program is designed for adults age 18 and older.
COST
Introductory price $450 for 6 sessions
Medicare rebates are available to participants with a valid referral
The group will be in a face-to-face format only.
Spaces are limited as the group size is kept small to ensure everyone is well supported.

Dr. Bec Barns is an empathic and supportive Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience supporting trauma survivors in public and private practice across the UK, New Zealand, and Australia. She is also a compassionate yoga teacher and Trauma Centre Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) facilitator, integrating mind-body approaches to promote healing and well-being. Georgia Gibbs is a dedicated and compassionate Provisional Psychologist with a passion for working with individuals who have had trauma experiences. She brings experience in disability and mental health, combining evidence-based interventions with a warm, client-centered approach.

General FAQs
Do I need to be supported by a therapist to take part in the group?
It is not mandatory but it may be helpful to be working with a therapist while taking part in the Trauma Psychoeducation and TCTSY yoga group.
What if I become distressed in the group?
Emotions may come up in any part of the group. If things are difficult for you during the group, you might let the facilitators know, who will be able to provide support. It may be helpful to have a plan in place about how you manage any distress after the session. You may also wish to engage with a therapist.
What if I can’t attend a session?
We encourage you to attend all sessions so that you get the most benefit from the group. If you are unable to attend a session, please let the facilitators know in advance. No refunds will be provided for missed sessions.
What do I need to wear? Do I need to bring anything?
You are welcome to wear anything you feel comfortable in. You have a choice as to how you wish to move – standing, sitting or lying on your mat – which may influence what you want to wear. Mats are provided. You might choose to bring any of the following:
- A yoga mat
- A blanket
- A cushion
- A water bottle
- A block
