Eva Gregory

Pregnancy Psychologist, Postpartum Psychologist, Perinatal Psychologist

I am a pregnancy, postpartum, perinatal Psychologist with a special interest in supporting people through the emotional challenges of fertility and conception, pregnancy, grief and loss, birth, and early parenthood. I work with clients across the Northern Beaches of Sydney, offering compassionate, evidence-based therapy.

Pregnancy Psychologist

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety during pregnancy, are struggling with intrusive thoughts, constantly worrying about your baby or crying frequently after birth – you’re not alone, and it is not your fault. Many people describe worries about being a “bad mum”, not enjoying parenthood, feeling on the outside as a father, or struggling to bond with their baby.

The experience of becoming a parent can be profoundly meaningful — and also overwhelming. Many people experience anxiety, antenatal and postpartum (also known as postnatal) depression, frightening intrusive thoughts, birth trauma, or a sense of disconnection from themselves or their baby.

You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to seek help. Support from a pregnancy, perinatal and postpartum psychologist can make a significant difference at any stage of this journey, and supports strong, lifelong bonds between parents and their babies.

Evidence-Based Therapy for People and Parents

With a warm and compassionate approach, I strive to bring a deep curiosity about my clients’ lives and perspectives and a genuine care for their wellbeing. My hope is that the therapy room is a space where clients feel understood and emotionally safe, while remaining active and empowered in their therapeutic journey.

All my work takes a trauma-informed perspective that always considers the broader picture, including attachment styles, family systems, cultural backgrounds, and the social and economic context. I hold a Master of Clinical Psychology and have completed advanced training in perinatal mental health. I have also published research into the experience of birth trauma in couples.

Therapeutic approaches are evidence-based and tailored to the client, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Schema Therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does perinatal mean?

Although there are varying medical definitions of perinatal, it is often considered the period of time spanning pregnancy and up to a year after birth. In psychology, we recognise that babies begin to grow and develop in mind long before conception, as such, perinatal Psychologists work with people from the early stages of family planning, through to conception journeys, pregnancy, and in the three years after birth.

How do I support my partner’s mental health in pregnancy and after the baby?

Sometimes people seek help on their own accord, and other times they are encouraged to seek mental health support by family and friends. If you’ve noticed your partner does not seem like themself, is unusually irritable or crying all the time, or is overwhelmed by worry, it is always worth checking in. Occasionally, the person you are concerned about is not ready to attend an appointment. In that case, you may benefit from therapy sessions to best understand what is going on, how to support them, and how to grow and thrive as a family.

Is it normal to feel anxious and overwhelmed during pregnancy and after having a baby?

Becoming a parent, or bringing a new baby into the family, can feel somewhat worrisome and daunting for many families. However, if you’re finding everything feels frightening and overwhelming, you can’t see much positive in the future, or you’ve simply felt unable to cope as you usually would, it is worth reaching out for help. You do not need to accept this as your new normal, and support is available.
